「The streets are littered with gold and diamonds」

2024年4月11日(木) – 4月21日(日)の期間、Pascal Harris（パスカル・ハリス）による個展「The streets are littered with gold and diamonds」を開催いたします。

Pascal Harrisはニュージーランド ダニーデン出身のアーティストで、音楽や写真、近年ではファウンド・オブジェを使った彫刻やアッサンブラージュ作品を発表するなど、多岐に渡る表現活動を行っています。

本展ではファウンド・オブジェに焦点を当て、作品を発表いたします。

ここ数年、私は路上に捨てられたり、迷子になったりしたものに惹かれている。それらは私に呼びかける。それらをどうしたらいいのかわからないまま、ただ貴重なものであり、その美しさはそれ自体がアート作品のようであるという意識だけを持って、私はそれらを集め始めた。この1年半、私はそれらを紙、厚紙、キャンバスなどさまざまな表面に組み立てたり、組み合わせて小さな彫刻にしたりするようになった。それはひとつのオブジェかもしれないし、複数のオブジェかもしれない。紙の上に捕らえられたこれらのオブジェは、「ゴミ」として路上に転がっている運命から救済される。

それらは作品や芸術に超越される。例えば、私が「青い窓」と呼んでいる青いゴムのような長方形のように。それは、より良い意味を持つようになる。今度、舗道に散らばったこれらの物体を見かけたら、私はまるで金のかけらのように拾い上げる。私にとっては金なのだ。通りには金とダイヤモンドが散らばっている。

We are pleased to announce “The streets are littered with gold and diamonds,” a solo exhibition by Pascal Harris from April 11 (Thu) – April 21 (Sun), 2024.

Pascal Harris is an artist from Dunedin, New Zealand, with a diverse range of expressive activities including music, photography, and more recently, sculpture and assemblage works using found objects.

This exhibition will focus on found objects.

For several years I have been attracted by objects abandoned or lost on the streets. They call out to me. I started collecting them, not knowing what to do with them, only having the consciousness that they were precious, even that their beauty made them like artworks in their own right. For the last year and a half I have begun assembling them on various surfaces, paper, cardboard, canvas, or combining them into small sculptures. It might be a single object or a group of objects. Captured on the paper, these objects are redeemed from their fate of lying on the street as ‘rubbish.’

They are transcended into works or art. Sometimes I managed to create a work out of some insignificant-looking object- such as the blue rubbery rectangles, which I called ‘blue windows’- then this object becomes charged with beauty for me. It takes on a heightened significance. The next time I see a group of these objects scattered on the pavement I pick them up like they are pieces of gold. For me they are gold. The streets are littered with gold and diamonds.
