第8回目の企画展として、 写真家Jeremy Benkemoun (ジェレミー・ベンケムン)による個展「無常」 を2020年8月14日(金) – 9月6日(日)の期間、開催いたします。

 

Jeremy Benkemounはフランス・カンヌ出身の写真家で、現在は東京を拠点に活動を行なっています。
国内外のファッション雑誌や広告などの仕事の一方で、パーソナルな作品には性やヌードを題材とすることが多く、それはJeremy自信がクィアアーティストとしてセクシュアリティの在り方を模索していることからです。

 

近年では歪み崩れ、何かが宿ったように侵食するシリーズで写真の新たな表現を生み出しています。

 

男性と女性、美しさと醜さ、光と陰、生と死。

 

現在社会に生きる私たちにとって、社会がつくりだした常識と日常のなかには、あまりにも一方の側面のみが正しいとされ選ばれてしまっていますが、Jeremyはその価値観に作品を通して疑問を投げかけています。

 

「無常」と題された本展では、近年のパーソナルな作品を展示いたします。「無常」とは永遠不変のものはないということ、また、人生のはかないことを意味する言葉です。

Tata is pleased to announce its eighth exhibition at Tata in Koenji, Tokyo, featuring a solo exhibition by photographer Jeremy Benkemoun, named « Transient » from August 14 to September 6, 2020.

 

Jeremy Benkemoun is a photographer from Cannes, France, and currently lives and works in Tokyo.

In addition to working for national and international fashion magazines and advertisements, his personal work often focuses on sexuality, identity and nudity, refusing to fit the patriarchal limits of it.

 

In recent years, he has created artworks that distorts, crumbles and erodes the bodies as if they were inhabitted, creating a new expression in photography.

 

Men and women, beauty and ugliness, light and shadow, life and death.

 

Jeremy’s work challenges society’s common sense, where only one side of the equation is too often chosen as the correct one.

 

In this exhibition, titled « Transient », we will present a selection of his recent personal works. The word « Transient » refers to the fact that nothing is stable, but that life is merely an everchanging experience, in which we influence everything, every person we encounter, just as much as we are influenced by them. This exhibition is a story about reciprocity.

 

Jeremy Benkemoun questions the new aspects of society and art.

    Jeremy Benkemoun (ジェレミー・ベンケムン）
    写真家。フランス・カンヌ出身。
    現在は東京を拠点に活動を行なっている。クィアアーティストとして、作品でアイデンティティーやセクシュアリティを問うことが多い。ジェンダー・ムービー・クラブ「Purple Screen（パープル・スクリーン）」ではエド・オリバーと共に共同で代表・キュレーターを務めている。ジェンダー以外にも様々な社会問題への関心があり、常に社会とクリエイティブの関係を模索し続けている。

    Photographer. Born in Cannes, France.
    He currently lives and works in Tokyo. As a queer artist, he often questions identity and sexuality in his work. He created the gender movie club "Purple Screen" with Edo Oliver, which they still run and co-curate, which focuses on gender issues, and therefore more globally on social issues as it is all related. Jeremy is constantly exploring the relationship between society, creativity and identity.

    あなたの顔は私が訳も分からず
    好んで彷徨う広い庭

    あなたと私は互いに見つめ合い
    すべては曇り
    私たちという個に何かが加わる

    その瞬間は自分を自分たらしめる
    壮大な混合物の一滴となる

    その混合物は特定の誰かではなく
    これまで知り合った全ての人や
    すべての眺めた風景の混ざり合いであり
    私たちの中で絶えず繰り返される

    周囲　他者　自己　
    記憶　視点　求められたもの　
    未来の目標ために今を生きたいという欲望
    そしてこれまで触れてきた身体と
    自分の間に引き寄せられた違和感の渦に
    溶けている私がいる

    全ては森羅万象から成る
    液体の様な世界で生きる私たちは
    なぜ自分自身を定義しようとするのか

    あなたという個人は
    横に立つ他者とは同じでない
    唯一の個人だ

    あるいは　あなたは箱だ
    生まれた時には少しだけ満ち
    最期の日まで受けるあらゆる印象で
    次第に満たされる

    固定された存在ではなく
    常に動き　不安定で　
    忘却と新しい記憶を作り　考え
    また別の何かについて考える物
    あなたはあなた自身の矛盾から成る
    あなたは周囲との
    絶え間ない相互作用に存在する
    複数の生き物だ

    あらゆる触れたものから成る
    とあるアイデンティティ


    Your faces are wide gardens in which I love to wander without understanding.

    We look at each other. Everything becomes blurry and something is added to our identities.

    This moment becomes one more drop in the great mix that makes us who we are.

    Not a person, but a mix of all those we’ve known and of all the sceneries we’ve seen, constantly repeating themselves inside us.

    Desolving, between my surroundings, others, myself, my memories, my perspectives, those I was asked to have, the desire to live in the present as a future goal and this strange circle that drew itself between my body, the ones I touched before, and the ones I never will.

    Why try to define ourselves when we live in a liquid world, where everything is made of everything.

    You are an individual, a unique individual who does not ressemble another who stands beside you.

    Or maybe you are a box, born a little full, which will gradually become fuller from all the impressions you will get until your last day.
    Not a fixed existence but a thing, ever moving, unstable, which forgets and then creates new memories, thinks, and then thinks about something else. You are made of your own contradictions. You are a plural being who exists in its constant interraction with its surroundings.

    An identity made of all the ones it has touched.
