「Kurara Audio Arts Archive vol.0」

2025年12月11日(木) – 12月31日(水)の期間、「Kurara Audio Arts Archive vol.0」を開催いたします。

 
Kurara Audio Artsは野界典靖と友人によって1994年、西新宿にノイズ／アヴァンギャルドのレコードを扱うショップKurara Recordとして誕生しました。その後、批評家の佐々木敦氏に誘われ、渋谷にオープンしたHEADZ事務所の一角に移転し、Kurara Audio Artsとして2000年代後半まで営業を続けました。

渋谷に移転してからはノイズ／アヴァンギャルドの枠を超えてジャズ、ブルース、フレンチ、ワールド、電子音楽、音響、現代音楽、古楽、ミュージカル、フィールドレコーディング、そしてビジュアルアーティストによるレコード、アートブック、アニメーションなど多岐にわたるジャンルのレコード、CD、カセット、ビデオ、書籍を扱い営業を行なっていました。
 
「分からなさや無駄な行為を重んじる場所が、世界にひとつぐらいあってもいいんじゃないかと思う」そう言っていた言葉通り、独特のセンスで集められたレコードや本を求め国内外のミュージシャン、アーティスト、音楽ファンに口コミで広がり、店主 野界典靖のキャラクターと飼い猫のくじらさんのいるファンタジー溢れる店内で多くの人々を魅了しました。
 
本展は2025年6月に永眠したKurara Audio Arts店主 野界典靖の追悼企画となります。

メディア、SNSではあまり触れられることの多くなかったKurara Audio Artsがどんな店舗だったかを知ってもらうとともに、展示を通して改めて音楽、アートの楽しさに触れていただける機会になれば幸いです。

We are pleased to announce “Kurara Audio Arts Archive vol.0” exhibition from Thursday December 11 – Sunday December 31, 2025.

Kurara Audio Arts was founded in 1994 in Nishi-Shinjuku by Noriyasu Nogai and friends as Kurara Record, a shop specializing in noise and avant-garde records. Later, invited by critic Atsushi Sasaki, it relocated to a section of the HEADZ office that had opened in Shibuya, continuing operations as Kurara Audio Arts until the late 2000s.

After moving to Shibuya, it expanded beyond noise/avant-garde to handle records, CDs, cassettes, videos, and books across diverse genres: jazz, blues, French music, world music, electronic music, sound art, contemporary classical, early music, musicals, field recordings, as well as records, art books, and animations by visual artists.

True to its owner’s words, “I think it’s okay for there to be at least one place in the world that values incomprehensibility and seemingly pointless actions,” the shop attracted musicians, artists, and music fans from Japan and abroad seeking its uniquely curated records and books, spread by word of mouth. Its fantastical interior, featuring owner Noriyasu Nogai’s personality and resident cat Kujira-san, captivated many visitors.

This exhibition serves as a memorial tribute to Noriyasu Nogai, owner of Kurara Audio Arts, who passed away in June 2025.

We hope this exhibition will offer an opportunity to learn about what Kurara Audio Arts was like—a place rarely covered in media or social networks—and to rediscover the joy of music and art through the displayed works.
